My main area of expertise is kinematic design of deployable mechanisms. Specifically I have worked on polyhedral linkages, scissor mechanisms and networks of spatial loops. Although many of deployable structures I designed are for general purposes, I and my colleagues have patents on deployable canopy, stent, tent and mast designs (see video below). Recently I focus on deployable post-disaster shelter designs.
I also work on kinematics of parallel mechanisms. In our research group at IzTech we designed several 2- and 3-degrees of freedom over-constrained planar and spatial parallel mechanisms. We have patents on some of these manipulators which can be used in manufacturing and medical robotics.
Another research focus of my group is on kinematic synthesis of mechanisms. We developed several kinematic synthesis methodologies for especially 2-loop planar and spatial mechanisms.
